The land which now makes up the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve was acquired in December of 2003, at a total cost to the public of $140 million. To celebrate 20 years of public ownership of this important natural resource, the Land Trust held a Nature Day in Area A event that was attended by roughly 50 people, including numerous families. ABC7 covered the event with a short segment, which can be viewed below, as well as other videos and photos from the event.
The LA Times reported on the finalization of the acquisition on December 19, 2003
